Nature of work

Interns are vital to the work of the Campaign team and are involved in almost all aspects of the team's functioning. The internship is designed to ensure that each intern gains experience in planning, implementing, overseeing and evaluating national campaigning activities.

The work is a mixture of short and long-term campaigning projects and day-to-day issues and tasks. Projects are set and supervised by the Campaign Manager but interns are expected to be able to work independently, use their initiative and manage their own workload.

The nature of these projects will depend on current priorities of the Campaigning team as well as the interests and abilities of the intern. Typical activities the intern can be involved include:

• Planning and implementing specific activites for national campaigns under supervision of the Campaign Manager;
• Day-to-day monitoring of the progress of the national campaigns and reporting to the Campaign Manager ;
• Drafting of various materials for campaiging purposes including press materials;
• Monitoring of and replying to incoming mail realating to campaiging activites of AIANZ.

The intern is expected to be an active member of the team, participating in brainstorming, designing and implementing campaigning actions of AI New Zealand.

Skills or experience required

• Experience in planning and delivering of campaigning activites on national, local or community level;
• Strong interest in campaigning;
• Strong interest in the human rights activism;
• Some knowledge of campaigning organizations and AI's work;
• Good inter-personal and communication skills;
• Computer literate;
• Ability to "multi-task";
• Ability to work independently;
• Experience of working in a team;
• Fluent level of written and spoken English.
