Direct Action Options
Take direct action on your own or with others
Freedom Writers Network Much of the campaigning strength of Amnesty International lies in the messages of reasoned protest which are sent by its members to those responsible for human rights violations. As a member of the Freedom Writers Network, you'll receive monthly Worldwide Appeal cases of individual victims of human rights abuses on which AI members around the world take action.Urgent Action Network Do you have an email address? If so, you can join the Urgent Action Network, allowing you to send immediate appeals to governments to stop people being tortured, killed or held in secret detention.
Specialist Network Networks specialise in one area of Amnesty's human rights work and attract members with a passion for, or expertise, in that area. Our networks are e-based and send out a newsletter on a bi-monthly basis: a mix of information and action requests. They allow you to take action at home on a topic close to your heart. An email address is required to belong to a specialist network. Currently we have four such networks: Legal, Children's Rights, Refugee Rights and Faiths Communities Networks.
Local Group or Regional Team AI groups and regional teams, made up of members living or working in the same area or region, are at the forefront in our campaigning against injustice. The key attributes required to join a group are energy, enthusiasm and a desire to work with others. You will be warmly welcomed at any one of some 32 local groups operating from Dunedin in the South to Auckland in the North.
AIANZ school groups We have more than 100 school and youth groups nationwide and are keen to link students to existing school groups or work along side students or teachers to set up a new school group. A key annual focus is the Freedom Challenge held during the first week of August. Recognising that students might not be able to financially support AI - free membership is offered via the school group.
