Are you a talented high school student who loves to sing and write music?

If so, here is a fantastic opportunity for you. 

Entries are now open for Freedom Fest.

 

Hawke's Bay's Amnesty International is proud to be hosting Freedom Fest - an excitingsinger/songwriter competition where you have the opportunity to showcase your talent at The Cabana, Napier.

 

Freedom Fest entries must be original and have lyrics with a human rights theme. 

 

So come on all you talented young musicians! The stage is yours!

Selection Session

 

All entrants will perform at a ‘selection session’ at Napier Girls High School (Clyde Road Napier) on Monday 16th July from 5.00pm where the judging will take place. Free public entry to the selection session – everyone welcome!



Judges

The judges will have expertise in music and/or human rights. Their decision will be final.

The winning songs will be decided by the judges and announced on on the night of the final (Sunday 22nd July).



Judging criteria


Lyrics: human-rights theme, clarity, originality.


Performance: originality, appeal of song, length (no longer than 4 minutes), presentation, quality of sound, quality of voice and instruments; Construction of the composition – use of musical elements.



 

Final of Freedom Fest - Tickets on sale now

The final of Freedom Fest will be at The Cabana, 11 Shakespeare Rd Napier, Sunday 22nd July 4pm – 7pm. 

 

Tickets to the final: $10. Tickets can be bought at the Music Machine Napier (Harston’s Building 25 Hastings Street Napier) or at Cornucopia (221 Heretaunga St East, Hastings) + door sales at the Cabana depending availability.


Please note: The Cabana is a licensed premises. People under 18 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian to the final of Freedom Fest.
