Welcome to Freedom Challenge 2010!
Freedom Challenge 2010 is now coming to an end, with only a few schools left to complete their events. If you are part of a school group, get in touch and let us know how your events for Freedom Challenge went!
Updates from Some of our Schools
Here are a few snippets of what our school teams have been up to this year.....
Students at Craighead Diocesan School (Timaru) managed to collect over 120 signatures on a 10m long banner.
"We loved taking part in Freedom Challenge. It was especially interesting, people have told me, to learn about an issue in a country which most studnets knew very little, if anything, about." Emily Watson, Student Co-ordinator.
Westlake Girls' (Auckland) put a great amount of effort into their Freedom Challenge this year, with a very full week of events. These ranged from a slienceathon, to a march around the school and a 'break out of prison demonstration' (see picture).
Epsom Gi
rls' (Auckland) students have so far raised over $500 for their Freedom Challenge, and are hoping to increase this further by organising a concert at a later date. They held a very successful bake sale and promoted awareness of Amnesty and the activists in Myanmar throughout the week.

Tauranga Girls' have had an action-packed Freedom Challenge. They kicked off the week with 'Yellow Tuesday' where they plastered the school in yellow. Followed by several other events throughout the week, on Friday they translated I ♥ Human Rights into a variety of languages and made postcards of the translations.
Staff and students at Nayland College (Nelson) began their Freedom Challenge by producing a short film; they were asked ‘What does Freedom mean to you?’ Click here to check the video out on YouTube. For the rest of the week they will be producing a speech bubble wall, where students can post their comments about freedom, as well as having a bake sale.
Freedom Challenge Review
For many of you Freedom Challenge 2010 will already be over. Amnesty wishes a big thank you to those of you that have participated this year. Many of you have dedicated a lot of time and effort into making Freedom Challenge a big success!
Every year we ask schools to fill in a review form on completion of their events, outlining what events you had, any media coverage, and any suggestions of how we can improve Freedom Challenge ready for next year. You can find the completion form in your Freedom Challenge pack or click here for a copy.
Return the form either by post to Amnesty International, PO Box 5300, Wellesley Street, Auckland 1141, or email to events@amnesty.org.nz, or youth.intern@amnesty.org.nz.
