Freedom Challenge 2011

What is Freedom Challenge?

Freedom Challenge is a team challenge for youth groups in New Zealand to take action for human rights around the world.

The aims of Freedom Challenge are to:

  • Raise awareness about the issue and inspire others to take action
  • Campaign on behalf of our two groups – Women of Zimbabwe arise, and the Peace Community of San Jose de Apartado
  • Raise money for Amnesty's human rights work
  • Recruit members to your team or group

Freedom Challenge always takes place in the first week of August.  This year that’s 1-5 of August, (first week of Term Three). But if this doesn’t suit you and your team you can hold Freedom Challenge at any time during Term Two or Three.

This year, the theme of Freedom Challenge is “Be a lifesaver, keep the heartbeat for human rights!”

Youth and students have been at the forefront of the human rights struggle all over the world throughout history. You have used your freedom of expression to help others. Through Freedom Challenge, we want to acknowledge the impact you have had on our work around the world.

So the focus the focus of Freedom Challenge 2011 is on:

  • Amnesty’s 50th birthday celebrations – the successes and achievements
  • Freedom of expression
  • Student activism - celebrating the role students like yourselves have played as lifesavers
  • Our slogan; ‘Be a lifesaver, keep the heartbeat for human rights’

Choose the best ideas/actions that suit and appeal to your group!
