Legal Network

Amnesty’s Legal Network is composed of lawyers and people interested in law who wish to use their special skills and influence to further the aims of Amnesty International.

What are the aims of the Legal Network?

  • To raise and maintain awareness of human rights issues within the New Zealand legal sector;
  • To undertake campaigning actions in relation to specific cases (eg Urgent Actions);
  • To contribute to international-themed campaigns (normally but not necessarily those campaigns selected as strategic priorities for AIANZ);
  • To provide Amnesty NZ with specialist legal expertise, as appropriate;
  • To develop and help to implement programs and plans for Amnesty NZ in the area of human rights law and in relation to legal issues.
  • To build alliances with other groups within New Zealand and internationally, including Amnesty International.
