CUBA: Musician released - FUA 237/08

Gorki Águila was released on 29 August after a trial before a Municipal court in Havana. He was cleared of charges of “dangerousness” (peligrosidad), but found guilty of the lesser offence of civil disobedience. He was sentenced to pay a fine of 600 Cuban pesos (US$27).

Gorki Águila, a musician in the band Porno Para Ricardo was arrested in Havana on 25 August. Porno Para Ricardo’s lyrics have been highly critical of the Cuban government. The band is not allowed to perform publicly in Cuba and their music has been banned from Cuban television and radio.
