Wellington’s Human Rights Fiesta ready to go
The Amnesty International Wellington Regional Team (WRT) is hosting a Human Rights Fiesta in Civic Square on 10 December, celebrating Human Rights Day and 60 years of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR).
“We are very excited to host this event here in New Zealand to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the adoption of the UDHR. New Zealand was one of the founding members of the United Nations, and therefore played a significant role in drafting the UDHR in 1948. Today we are highlighting the importance of the UDHR in today’s world”, says Uschi Klein, Media Co-ordinator of the WRT.
“New Zealand has made a substantial contribution in the field of international human rights, and we are very pleased to have stalls from over 20 organisations at the event, all doing human rights work here in New Zealand and around the world. Other highlights of the Human Rights Fiesta are various speakers, free life music from Yulia, Wellington Batucada and IROOTZ, food and a Toast to Freedom.”
“The event is free and takes place between 5.15 – 6.30pm on Human Rights Day, 10 December. It will be a great opportunity to celebrate the fundamental rights the UDHR encompasses”, concludes Uschi Klein.
