Amnesty International's largest and most exciting letter writing event will be held between between 6 and 14 December 2008.
To mark Human Rights Day (10 December), thousands of people around the world will use the power of letter writing to help bring about the release of people who have been wrongfully detained, and to influence world leaders to protect individuals and groups whose human rights have been denied.
Last year, 41 countries took part in the letter-writing marathon. At least 200,000 letters were sent. This year, Amnesty is asking Kiwis all over New Zealand to participate in Write for Rights, to campaign on behalf of eight people imprisoned or at risk simply because of their beliefs or gender in countries around the world including Cambodia, Mexico and Iran.
Participants can write to the individual personally and to the relevant authorities asking for their release.
