Update on WOZA activists arrested at tenth anniversary demonstration
Amnesty International last week called on the Zimbabwean government to immediately and unconditionally release nine members of the activists organisation, Women of Zimbabwe Arise (WOZA). The activists, including WOZA leader Jenni Williams, were arrested during a peaceful protest last Tuesday.
Amnesty International has been informed that the group of 14 detainees were all released on Friday. The bystanders were released unconditionally and the WOZA members were released on free bail, They are charged with 'criminal nuisance' under Section 46 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act. They will appear in court on today.
