New Zealand and International Lobbying

Political lobbying

We try to influence the New Zealand government’s policies and laws by meeting and discussing its concerns and interests with members of the New Zealand parliament, public sector and ministerial officials, and New Zealand diplomatic representatives abroad.

Amnesty's Advocacy Team:

  • Informs and influences the New Zealand government to advance Amnesty's aims, research and recommendations.
  • Informs and influences foreign governments, both directly and through their New Zealand embassies, about Amnesty’s concerns and recommendations for the countries they represent.
  • Works with Amnesty members and members of the public to lobby both national and international decision-makers to ensure human rights are upheld.

Our Submissions

We regularly make submissions to the New Zealand government and other international bodies. Submissions allow us to present our observations and recommendations on a matter which is then viewed by a select committee. Submissions are written, but we may also ask to talk to the committee in person. Click here to read our submissions.
