Amnesty International seeks Director of Global Operations

Amnesty International is looking for a Director of Global Operations, to be based in London, UK to enable our Regional Offices to be as effective as possible.

Amnesty International Secretariat (AIIS), operates from a number of sites around the world, gathers and communicates accurate and action-oriented human rights information globally. AIIS campaigns for meaningful human rights change; enables effective human rights activism and works to persuade governments and other actors to uphold universal human rights standards. We provide strategic leadership, support and advice to the Amnesty International movement globally, fostering Amnesty International's contribution, presence and public accountability throughout the world.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Director of Global Operations works closely with the Senior Director, Global Operations to enable and advise the nine Regional Offices (managed by the Senior Director) to assist Amnesty to have maximum impact. The role leads cross-regional initiatives; supports Regional Offices in strategy, planning and reflection; and fosters cooperation between multiple stakeholders in the Amnesty movement and beyond. In times of transition, you may step into management functions in a Regional Office on an interim basis. With a mix of strategic, planned work and nimble trouble-shooting and negotiation, each day is different, dynamic and will keep you on your toes.

ABOUT YOU

The ideal candidate will have outstanding judgement and interpersonal skills, with demonstrated ability to get things done even without direct line management. You will have a strong record in human rights and ideally experience working in a complex international context. You will be proactive, flexible and an effective sounding board, willing to advise quietly behind the scenes or lead changes, depending on the needs of the situation. You are driven by your passion for making an organizations like Amnesty as powerful as possible in the fight for human rights change.
